Its Election Day! Who Musicians Should Vote For?
Labour are looking to implement an arts education fund, aimed at primary rather than secondary students. The £160 million arts pupil premium will ensure arts education for every primary school child and hopes that in providing younger students with a creative education, arts will naturally become ‘embedded within secondary education.’
The Tories have promised to invest in an arts education fund, entitled the ‘Arts premium’ that will be funded at £110 million a year for three years, starting in 2021. This will be a great incentive for musicians to vote for Boris Johnson in the general election on the 14th December.
The Lib Dems are the only party that are looking to abolish the Ebacc altogether and in turn hope to ‘protect the availability of arts and creative subjects in the curriculum.’ Leader – Joe Swinston seems to be very grey on musicians rights and music education.
One can only hope that the members of each party plan to stand by their promises; arts subjects are too important to be overlooked.
