How Corona Virus Could Affect Musicians & Teachers Income

Acts like Carlos Santana and David Crosby have cancelled tours due to fears of catching or spreading covid-19 and also losing money from low turnouts or cancellations.  Freelance musicians and music teachers will not qualify for many of the rights that employees have normally, which includes things like sick pay. The Government has promised it would make it better for self-employed people to access benefits. But will it be enough to cover the loss of income people face.

This is why, with the cancellation of gigs and festivals, restrictions on events with large crowds in Europe, and talk of shutting down key workplaces such as schools, musicians who work freelance are worried about how they will pay the bills. That’s not something anyone should have to worry about in 2020.

It’s not just musicians who are worried either. Freelancers in all sectors face losing wages and losing work as a result of COVID-19.
