The Young Blues Challenge
We are hoping you might care to help Norfolk Blues Society (NBS) promote their latest venture by telling everyone about it especially those who might be interested or know someone else who might be. NBS often gets young players come to our regular free jam sessions and it’s amazing to see how they develop when playing with some of Norfolk’s top blues musicians. The idea of a young blues challenge has been at the top of the NBS wish list of events for about two years. Now it’s here and it fits NBS’s charitable remit of Keeping Blues Live in Norfolk perfectly!
It is being organised as a joint venture between NBS and Fine City Blues supported by Unit Twenty Three and the EDP. The challenge (See attached flyer) is for young musicians/bands to learn to perform three blues songs. The prizes will be
- Opening spot for Dereham Blues Festival Launch concert
- Photographic, graphic and publicity support package
- Broadcast session on Best of the Blues on Future Radio and use of the studio
- Professional performance coaching
- and a special one-off masterclass led by Dave Thomas
Bands who take up the challenge will initially be invited to submit links to just one video clip of themselves playing one blues based number but these must unedited films – it’s the blues music they play that will matter, not the quality of the visuals. They need to have done this by the 18th November 2016. We have had a few apply already but we know there is more talent out there. Bands, duos or soloists can take part but all participants must be aged between 12 and 21 on 1st Jan 2017.
All those under sixteen must get their parents or guardians signed permission to take part. Only one member of the band need apply on a band’s behalf.
For an application pack, they can email YBCnorfolk@gmail.com
