Sky TV Guitar Star A Flop

Terrible viewing figures and poor standards of guitarists are to blame for Sky Televisions latest musical venture turning into a poorly managed piece of trash TV. The judges are of a poor standard and the guitarists they are rating are typical 3 chord wonders in an Ed Shearan style. Great if you want to sell some popular commercial downloads on iTunes but not creative and interesting for their target market guitarists.

We would have done things very differently at My Guitar Lessons if we had the budget a a major TV corporation like Sky or the BBC behind us. Firstly get your core values right, don’t patronise guitarists that have spent Years fine tuning their skills to be told that someone that has taken a week to learn 3 open chords is better than a top jazz or metal player. Put them in with a band to see how their band management and communication skills are – that’s a BIG part of playing live. And offer a slot at a decent guitar or rock festival not a teeny boppers dinner party.
