Sky TV Show Wants The UK’s Best Guitar Player.

SKY TV are searching the UK and Ireland for extraordinary guitar players who are willing to jam, strum and pluck their way to victory for the chance to perform on the main stage of major UK music festival, Latitude. Whether their jam is rock, classical, jazz or acoustic, competing guitarists will be tested on their ability to play both in a range of musical styles and a genre of their choice, and will perform at famous venues associated with their chosen style.

Throughout the process, they’ll meet and be mentored by some of the biggest guitar stars in the world. The semi-finalists will hone their act in a recording studio, where they will work with a global guitar legend to perfect their sound.

Sky Arts has launched a hunt for a guitarist to play at the Latitude festival as part of a nine-part series. ‘Guitar Star’, a 9 x 60-minute production will scour the UK for rock, classical, jazz or acoustic guitarists of any age to take part in a competition format. Over the course of the Edith Bowman-fronted series, 16 entrants will be whittled down by a panel of judges to a final four. The winner will then perform a live set on the main stage of the tenth Latitude festival this summer.

Throughout the process the hopefuls will be tested across a range of genres, as well as performing at iconic venues associated with their preferred style. They will also be mentored by some of the world’s biggest guitar stars, with the semi-finalists perfecting their sound in a studio session with a guitar legend.

The show was commissioned by Sky commissioning executive Barbara Lee and will be exec produced by Somethin’ Else’s Jez Nelson and Sadia Butt with GroupM’s Melanie Darlaston. Sky Arts director Philip Edgar Jones said: “Whether it’s electric or acoustic, classical or rock, Guitar Star is about those undiscovered geniuses of the frets with a real passion for music of all genres.”
