Our very own My Guitar Lessons teacher and manager Simon Devlin has been given the privilege of playing some of the Worlds greatest guitar players guitars. The guitars Simon played included Joe Satriani’s Ibanez, Slash from Guns’n’Roses – Les Paul, Jeff Becks Telecaster and Jimmy Pages Les Paul. He also saw Jimi Hendrix Gibson Flying V that Jimi used for his very last public performance.
Simon said “This was guitar overload for me. I was first handed Satches guitar and was shaking playing it, but when they handed me Led Zeppelins guitarist – Jimmy Page’s Les Paul I was in bits. Then one of my all time favourites Jeff Beck and his old Tele that he’s used on countless albums and live performances – I could have cried.” But the best was still to come.
Simon – who plays in a Jimi Hendrix tribute act ‘Purple Jimi’ was then given a black Gibson Flying V to look at. It was built by Gibson especially for Jimi Hendrix and he used it for what was to be his last live public performance’, I felt that I was in Heaven. Even though it was locked in a glass case in a heavily guarded underground vault in the heart of London I still finding it hard to believe that I’ve been that close Jimi’s guitar”.
