Guitar Player Blinded During Performance By Thrown Bleach!
A guitarist who was out busking in Edinburgh was blinded by a homeless person who throw a cup of burning ammonia into his face. The bleach burn’t out the corneas in both eyes of Glasgow guitarist Greg Aitken, 22, who is now forced to wear sunglasses indoor. George Kerr, 57, has been jailed for more than five years after pleading guilty to the attack.
The attack was thought to be in retribution to an altercation the victim had had with a homeless man, Kerr was associated with. ‘My face was covered in it and my eyes were in searing pain. It had gone up and was burning my nose, and was in my mouth. I was screaming. ‘It’s completely changed my life. I now can’t spend any time outside and have to wear sunglasses indoors. ‘Doctors are hopeful, but the attack might have left my right eye blind forever.’
Greg is well known in the city’s music scene after graduating from Glasgow Academy of Music and Sound in December 2013. Before the attack, he was able to earn up to £150 every time he went out busking. Due to his sensitivity to light, he now stays indoors and spends a lot of time writing music. Doctors are not yet certain what the long-term future for Mr Aitken’s eyesight but there is hope a cornea transplant could restore vision to his virtually blind right eye.
