Guitar Rock Band The Who Cancel Shows Due To Sickness

The Who shows had to be postponed due to Roger Daltrey illness. Both Pete Townsend, guitarist for The Who and Roger Daltrey, 70, have admitted touring is ‘incredibly tough on the body’. They have postponed two concerts in London as frontman Roger Daltrey is suffering from a throat infection. The singer has been ordered to rest by doctors. The shows, due to take place on Wednesday and Thursday at the O2 Arena, have been pushed back to March.

The band are currently on their The Who Hits 50 tour, celebrating their 50th anniversary. The two London shows were the last of their 2014 dates in the UK. A spokesman for the band said: “On medical advice, singer Roger Daltrey has been ordered to rest his voice due to a throat infection. “The band and their management wish to sincerely apologise to all ticket holders for the inconvenience and disappointment this has caused.”

The postponed concerts will take place on 22 and 23 March, ahead of their US tour beginning 15 April. The Who will return to Europe in June, including shows in Dublin, Belfast, Paris, Amsterdam and a gig in London’s Hyde Park. When the tour was announced in June Daltrey, 70, admitted that touring was “incredibly tough on the body” and suggested these could be The Who’s last major live shows. “This is the beginning of the long goodbye,” he said. “We can’t go on touring forever… it could be open-ended, but it will have a finality to it. We’ll stop touring before we stop playing.”
