Famous Guitar Club to close in Denmark Street.
London Soho music and guitar venue, the 12 Bar Club, is to close in January 2015 in the wake of the Denmark Street Crossrail redevelopment. The venue, which is owned by property developer Consolidated, will officially close for business on January 16th. Earlier this year, a Change.org petition was launched to save the 12 Bar Club, garnering more than 19,000 signatures from the likes of Glen Matlock, Mick Avory and Pete Townshend.
Speaking to the NME in September, a spokesperson for Consolidated said: “We have a long-standing interest in Soho and are intent on working with the local community to preserve and enhance the heritage of Denmark Street and the surrounding area. As is the nature of redevelopment, change is inevitable, but it is hoped that in the long run this will be instrumental to a positive future for the area”.
The news comes on the back of the closure of another historic Soho music venue, Madame Jojo’s, last month, joining the long list of recent casualties such as the Astoria, Sin, Metro and the Bath House.”
The 12 Bar Club’s closure is the latest in a string of high profile casualties in the area, with the Astoria, Sin, Metro and the Bath House all forced to close their doors.
