Guthrie Govan Gives Guitar Teachers Lessons
On Wednesday 3rd December, guitarist Guthrie Govan will give an exclusive masterclass to guitar students. Spaces will also be available to a limited number of guitar teachers, at the Tricycle Cinema in Kilburn. Guthrie has recorded and toured with a number of high profile acts/artists such as Asia and Dizee Rascal. Some of his guitar and bass work has also been included in hit singles by artists such as Tinie Tempah and Cee Lo Green.
The content of the event will largely be controlled by questions from the audience, covering topics such as improvisation, playing techniques and tone generation. There will also be a number of demo performances to backing tracks from albums by Guthrie and the Aristocrats trio.
On the subject of the class, Guthrie said: “For me, an event like this essentially entails meeting a room full of guitar playing individuals for the first time ever so… I try to avoid simply demonstrating a series of “circus tricks” or working through a premeditated list of topics. I’ve found that it’s invariably more constructive to open things up to the students, encouraging them to ask questions and thus enabling them to steer the general proceedings in the direction of their choice. With this kind of approach, every workshop/clinic/masterclass can be somewhat unique – it’s more personalised and, dare I say, more fun!”
First and foremost, the masterclass is intended as a free event for current students of the institute. However, the institute is also planning to open the event up for alumni who can purchase tickets for £5.
