My Guitar Lessons have been informed that Fender CEO, Larry Thomas is leaving the company at the end of May 2014. Larry, 64, joined the Fender board in 2009 and was appointed CEO in August 2010. His retirement next month will end a 40-year career in the guitar business.”We are grateful and appreciative of Larry’s important contributions to the success of Fender and the company’s ongoing legacy,” said Mark Fukunaga, Fender co-chairman.
Scott Gilbertson, Fender interim chief operating officer since October 2013, will be the interim CEO while the company searches for Thomas’ successor. Gilbertson has been a executive at J. Crew, Under Armour and Bally International. “I am extremely proud of the success we achieved in my time at Fender,” said Larry Thomas. “This has truly been a wonderful life experience.” Thomas started his career in 1971 as an instrument wholesaler and importer with Buegeleisen and Jacobson Inc. and joined Guitar Center six years later as a salesman. He was chairman and CEO of Guitar Center from 1996-2004.
