Queen Guitarist Brian May Reveals New Album Details
Guitarist Brian May revealed that the band was planning on releasing late lead singer Freddie Mercury’s unreleased vocals on a new compilation album that will likely be entitled, “Queen Forever.”
May, who’s a legend in his own right, told BBC Wales radio host Wynne Evans about the plans on Friday.
“It is quite emotional,” May says. “It is the big, big ballads and the big, big epic sound. It wouldn’t have been if we hadn’t done this restoration job. We had to start from scratch because we only had scraps. But knowing how it would have happened if we had finished it, I can sit there and make it happen with modern technology.”
The fact that the announcement comes soon after the release of Michael Jackson’s posthumous “Xscape” may have a few recalling the unreleased collaboration between Mercury and the King of Pop. May revealed the song’s existence last year, but he didn’t say whether than collaboration would make its way onto “Queen Forever.”
May hinted at the upcoming project to USA Today last autumn.
“The music is there and it’s great,” May said. “We keep finding more and more tapes, so we’ll certainly be working on stuff that sounds like new Queen tracks in the next few months.”
“Queen Forever” is aiming for a summer release, when Queen will embark on its first U.S. tour in eight years. The legendary band will tour with Adam Lambert in 18 cities, starting in Chicago.
Mercury is regarded as one of rock’s greatest singers, as he used charisma to compel millions on classics like “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “We Are the Champions.” He passed away in 1991 due to complications resulting from AIDS.
