Napalm Death, Mastodon, Soilwork, Faith No More Members Announce Supergroup

Iconic metal producer Russ Russell exclusively revealed a new supergroup project featuring members of Napalm Death, Soilwork, Faith No More and Mastodon working on new music for the past 18 months.

Gathering up Shane Embury, Dirk Verbeuren, Billy Gould and Troy Sanders under the Tronos name, the band is still very much in the making process and still looking for a vocalist similar in style to Jaz Coleman of Killing Joke.

“For some time now – once again it’s me and Mr. Shane Embury from Napalm Death, we’re glued together like Siamese brothers – we’ve been talking for years about doing a project, ’cause we love Celtic Frost and then when Triptykon came along we were just like ‘Oh my God this is fantastic, we need to do something like this!'” the producer explained Team Rock Radio.

“But also crossed with – we have a great love of all things ambient and floaty like Cocteau Twins. You know, as much reverb and chorus and delay you can put on a guitar as possible and make nice aerial, floaty, beautiful sounds.”

After explaining the group’s sound, Russel went on to reveal the band members, naming several major players of the metal domain. “[Embury] said ‘OK, we need to find a drummer.’ He said, ‘Actually, Dirk Verbeuren from Soilwork, he’s been asking for ages to do a project together, let’s see if he’s interested.’ So we emailed him a track, we went to bed, got up the next morning and he’d sent back the finished drums, done. We went ‘Wow, that was easy.’ So we wrote two more songs the next day, we sent them to him – the next day, two more finished drum tracks, delivered.

” Russ continued, “Who else can we get on it? Shane said, ‘I don’t really wanna play bass, I wanna play guitar on this project, so we need to find a bass player – I know, how about Billy Gould from Faith No More?’ He did a few bass tracks, sent them over, they’re absolutely fantastic, just so recognizably him.”

Furthermore, the two contacted Troy Sanders as the second bassist and noted that the band is looking for a vocalist. “I would like something in the style of Jaz Coleman,” Russel added, also revealing that Silje Wergeland from the Gathering will contribute with “really nice floaty female epic vocal parts.”
