Gorham Considers Second Black Star Riders Album
Black Star Riders guitarist Scott Gorham admits he’ll be interested to see whether their second album moves away from the Thin Lizzy sound – that’s if there is a second album.
They are currently touring on the back of well-received debut release All Hell Breaks Loose, which started life as a Thin Lizzy record before the band decided to move away from Phil Lynott’s band’s name.
And Gorham has already had some thoughts about a follow-up. He tells The Rocktologist: “If we’ll be doing another one it will be next September.
“There were 12 songs on All Hell Breaks Loose but we had 18 written. Those that were left out could easily be included the next time round. And the band is constantly writing new material, so it’s not like we’re sitting around doing nothing.
“It’s all pretty exciting stuff. We’ll need to review the situation when we get to the next album.”
The guitarist hopes the current line-up, fronted by Ricky Warwick, is the one that will make the prospective second record. And he admits it will be “interesting” to see how far they move away from Lizzy.
“These sounds come out the way they come out,” he reflects. “There’s no sort of premeditation on how we record or anything like that.
“At the same time, you must realise that I’ve been playing Thin Lizzy songs my whole life, so there’s always going to be a bit of that wherever I go. Both Damon Johnson and Ricky have been studying the Thin Lizzy thing for the last three years, so it’s kind of tough just to shake all those things off all of a sudden.”
Gorham is keen to underline that, even though BSR evolved from the 2010 reincarnation of Lizzy, it doesn’t mean the late Lynott’s band is over and done with. “it’s not the end –although there might have been some provocations suggesting that,” he states.
“We decided not to release this album under the Lizzy banner because it didn’t feel right. But it’s definitely not the end of Thin Lizzy. In actual fact we’re already planning on doing a couple of shows next year.”
