Jack White Named Honorary Dean Of Music Academy

White Stripes frontman Jack White was made an Honorary Dean at Mexico City’s Fermatta Music Academy.

As Rolling Stone reports, White made a special appearance at the Academy’s 20th anniversary celebration on August 22 in order to give an award speech.

“The sense of being a musician is making art, and I do not care whether it is solo or as part of a collective project,” the frontman told the gathered students and media. “At all times, I seek to express myself, and different circumstances of my life could also become multiple creative and stylistic channels.”

Apart from becoming the first musician ever to be named an Honorary Dean, Jack also received a Lifetime Achievement Award.

In related news, White is currently working on new material with his band the Dead Weather. The group has reportedly gathered up in studio in Nashville with more info yet to come. The frontman recently also announced the re-release of White Stripes’ massively successful “Elephant” album, marking the record’s tenth anniversary.

Jack White’s debut solo effort “Blunderbuss” saw its release in April 2012 through Third Man Records. With 138,000 units shipped in the US during the first week, it debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart.
