WASP Ex Doubts Lawless Excuse Story
Former WASP guitarist Chris Holmes has suggested frontman Blackie Lawless made up an excuse for cancelling the band’s European tour.
The call-off was announced at the end of May via the boss of Swedish rock festival Kirunafestivalen, who reported: “Lawless was injured in a vehicle-related accident that resulted in him breaking a leg. Complete recovery is expected following surgery.”
But Holmes tells Uber Rock: “The rock’n’roll business, sometimes the bullshit that people make up just to get publicity makes you sick.
“Like, I bet you if I went to somebody’s house, their leg wouldn’t be broken.
“There’s a thing called workers’ comp – it’s where you’re insured so if you get hurt and you’re off the job, you still get paid for sitting on your ass.
“I’m sure if we sent somebody over to somebody’s house, they’d be over there jogging around their property.”
Meanwhile, Holmes has explained the delay behind his recent solo album Nothing Left To Lose – saying former Motorhead drummer Philthy ‘Animal’ Taylor’s health problems has disrupted the schedule.
“Him and I started doing a project about three years ago,” says the guitarist. “In the midst of mixing the thing, Phil had a brain aneurysm. He popped a blood vessel in his head – kind of messed him up right in the middle of when we were working on it.
“He had to go back to England. He’s okay now; he’s recovering, but lucky to be alive.
“Anyway, I was left to pick up the pieces and get it together and get it out.”
