Trent Reznor Fumes At Biffy Clyro
Trent Reznor has claimed Nine Inch Nails’ stage production at Reading over the weekend was ruined by Biffy Clyro and festival promoter Melvin Benn.
Notorious perfectionist Reznor fumed on Twitter ahead of his second-top-slot appearance: “Should be an unusual show tonight… the lying promoter and the band following us (whoever the fuck they are) fucked us on our production.”
But Benn denied the frontman’s allegation, saying: “The truth is, there’s no truth in the statement. The contract hasn’t changed since they signed up to it.”
Asked whether Reznor was, in fact, unhappy that Biffy Clyro were ahead of him on the bill, Benn replied: “I couldn’t possibly comment.”
NIN delivered a 75-minute performance bathed in blue light at Reading, as they’d done at the festival’s twin event in Leeds the night before, with Reznor choosing not to speak to the crowd at any point. The pair of UK appearances are among the last before Reznor changes up to an all-new production which was prepared at the same time.
New album Hesitation Marks is due out on September 2. Oscar-winner Reznor put the band on hiatus in 2009 following an ill-tempered set at Sonisphere UK, where he stood with his back to the crowd for most of the show and refused to play the band’s biggest tracks. He announced their return with a new lineup earlier this year.
