Green Day Documentary Due In October

Broadway Idiot, the full-length documentary tracing the development of Green Day’s 2004 album American Idiot into a Broadway musical, is set for release this fall. The film will be released in theaters and available on video on demand, Variety reports.

The film is directed by Broadway veteran Ira Pittleman, who also worked on the musical, and is being produced by Doug Hamilton.

Broadway Idiot made its debut at SXSW earlier this year, and follows the rock band’s transition from arena stages into the world of Broadway. The film chronicles Billie Joe Armstrong’s collaboration with Michael Mayer, which culminated in the theatrical adaptation, which has won Grammy, Tony and Drama Desk awards.

Broadway Idiot will open in movie theaters in New York on October 11th, and is set for wider release on October 18th.
