Kiss Gone In 5 To 10 Years

Kiss will be gone in the next five to ten years, says mainman Gene Simmons.

The band are celebrating their 40th anniversary this year and they’re still going strong with a European tour underway in support of well-received 20th album Monster.

But the bassist and vocalist knows it’s not going to last for ever.

He tells Expressen TV: “One day it will end – and I hope on the day that we end, we end on a high note instead of going down.

“You don’t want to stay one day longer than when it’s great. You want to be great till the end. “We probably have another five to ten years at the most.”

Meanwhile, he insists the band are still “having a great time” and puts their longevity down to a number of factors. “Part of it is pride,” he says. “Part of it is talent, part of it is hard work. If you work hard but you don’t have what people like, it doesn’t matter. If you have the talent and you don’t have the hard work, it doesn’t happen.”

Asked about the fact that Kiss played what they called a farewell tour 13 years ago, Simmons replies: “When you do things every day it’s really tough to remember where you were 13 years ago.”

The band last night kicked off their European tour in Sweden, featuring a brand-new stage set featuring a giant moving spider-shaped rig, created by Simmons’ long-time colleague Paul Stanley.

Simmons explains: “‘Spider’ – that word is too small. It’s magnificent. It’s gorgeous. Paul was in the office and he just started drawing something, and that’s where all the great ideas come from – us, not a designer from outside. Very exciting.”

Stanley previously discussed the possibility of Kiss continuing without himself and Simmons, saying: “I don’t rule it out.”
