3 Doors Down Bassist Charged In Fatal Crash

Todd Harrell, the bassist for 3 Doors Down, has been charged with vehicular homicide after a fatal collision on Friday night in Nashville.

The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department say that Harrell was driving fast down Interstate 40 when his car clipped a pickup truck and sent it down an embankment, Reuters reports. The 47-year-old driver of the pickup, Paul Howard Shoulders, Jr., was ejected from the truck and died. According to the police, Harrell displayed signs of impairment during the field sobriety test, appeared to be under the influence of an intoxicant and admitted “consuming hard cider and taking prescription Lortab and Xanax.”

Harrell was also accused of bringing controlled substances into Nashville’s Metro Jail, where he was booked after the crash. The police say that during a search in the booking room, sheriff’s deputies found a plastic bag containing eight Xanax pills, 24 Oxycodone pills and four Oxymorphone pills hidden in his sock.

Bail was set for $100,000, and Harrell currently remains in jail.

3 Doors Down, which formed in Mississippi in the mid-Nineties and came to fame with hits including “Kryptonite” and “Away from the Sun,” released a statement regarding the incident on their website. “We are deeply saddened by the passing of Paul Howard Shoulders, Jr.,” they wrote. “Our hearts and prayers go out to his family and friends at this difficult time.”
