Morrissey Faces Possible Early Retirement
Former Smiths frontman Morrissey is currently battling a wide range of illnesses including pneumonia, a bleeding ulcer and a throat condition, which he admits have forced him to reach his “physical limits”.
After cancelling a total of 22 North American tour dates, the vocalist might even be facing an early retirement. In a recent statement he posted on True To You fansite, Morrissey has stated he is going through “colossal pain”, still expressing his hope for better days and return to music and live performing.
“It takes a lifetime to find the right words, and at the moment, I haven’t got them. I’ve been a colossal pain where this continuously unpredictable illness is concerned, and now the physical limits have been reached. The tour had, in fact, been fantastic for all of us – a new slice of life full of concentrated power. The audiences everywhere have given so much, although I know that neither of us will ever receive our due. I hope this isn’t the end, and I hope there will be other chances, minus the heavy burden of illness. Knots of grief today, but full of resolve for tomorrow.”
An official announcement during the weekend has revealed that the singer has no choice but to take a hiatus and therefore cancel the remainder of the current tour.
“The remaining dates of the Morrissey U.S. North American tour have officially been pulled down due to medical reasons. The singer has suffered a series of medical mishaps over the past few months including a bleeding ulcer, Barrett’s esophagus and double pneumonia. Despite his best efforts to try to continue touring, Morrissey has to take a hiatus and will not be able to continue on the rest of the tour. Morrissey thanks all of his fans for their well wishes and thoughts. Refunds for the remaining shows are available at point of purchase.”
