Bowie Outselling Bon Jovi

David Bowie’s latest album, “The Next Day”, might only have been out for a couple of days, but it is already expected to become one of the best selling albums of the year. The Next Day shifted 56,000 units in the UK on it’s first day of release, three times as many copies as Bon Jovi’s latest album, “What About Now”. As Noise11 notes, the album is on course to become Bowie’s ninth #1 album.

In the U.S meanwhile, the race for the #1 spot between Bowie and Bon Jovi is much tighter, with both albums projected to sell around 90,000 copies. In the U.S., as Billboard reports, Bowie has never had a #1 album, with his highest charting album previously being Station to Station, which peaked at #3 in 1976.

Album sales for Bowie would no doubt be helped by some live dates. And while the singer has so far been reticent to announce a tour, his wife, Iman, may have let the cat out of the bag after offering the following comments in an interview with Grazia:

“We’ll have to go visit [David], but we won’t be on tour with him because [Alexandria – Bowie’s daughter] is in school,” the supermodel said. “Our schedule is around her, so I don’t know.”
