Troggs Frontman Reg Presley Dies

Troggs frontman Reg Presley has died aged 71, a year after being diagnosed with lung cancer.

The 60s icon, best remembered for hit singles Wild Thing and Love Is All Around, lost his health battle after suffering a series of strokes.

Presley, real name Reginald Bell, announced his retirement in January 2012 after falling ill during a concert in Germany, leading to his diagnosis.

He said at the time: “I am receiving chemotherapy treatment and at the moment not feeling too bad. However, I’ve had to call time on the Troggs and retire. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for the cards and calls, and for your love, loyalty and support over the years. I shall miss you all.”

The band formed in Andover, England, in 1964. They were signed by Kinks manager Larry Page the following year and in 1966 scored a US number-one and UK number-two hit with Wild Thing.

The Troggs are listed as influences by acts including Iggy Pop, the Ramones and Jimi Hendrix. Guitarist Chris Britton, bassist Pete Lucas and drummer Dave Maggs continue to perform with guest vocalist Chris Allen.
