Metallica Deny Asking Military To Stop Using Their Music

Contrary to reports, Metallica say they didn’t ask the military to stop using their music as an interrogation technique.

Use of heavy, aggressive music as an interrogation technique is widely documented, and the Navy Seal who shot Osama Bin Laden recently claimed that Metallica had asked to stop using their music, which they have denied in a post on their website.

“There has been a lot of talk recently about us asking the military not to use our music to ‘soften people up before interrogation,'” reads the post. “We NEVER commented to the military either way on this matter. Any statements that have been made otherwise are not correct.”

That doesn’t mean they condone this form of torture. In 2009, Lars Ulrich said: “It all seems so bizarre and so strange that Metallica’s music, which generally sort of facilitates bringing people together, is used in these bizarre circumstances. It’s certainly not something that we in any way advocate or condone.”

Another band whose music has been used near the front line is Demon Hunter, who reportedly offered their albums to be used in this way. “They sent us CDs and patches,” said the aforementioned Navy Seal. “I wore my Demon Hunter patch on every mission. I wore it when I blasted bin Laden.”
