Queen guitarist may be about to put his astrophysics qualifications to good use.
Brian May is well known for his rock god status but in recent years, his PhD in Astrophysics has also hit the headlines. Now, there are calls for the Queen guitarist to fill the television-presenting shoes of stargazer Sir Patrick Moore, who died earlier this month.
Leading academics have told the Daily Telegraph that May would be perfect to take over from Moore. He appeared several times on the long running BBC programme and also collaborated with Moore on a book, entitled ‘Bang!’.
Professor David Southwood, president of the Royal Astronomical Society and a senior research investigator at Imperial College told The Telegraph “You’ve got to have a pretty strong personality to replace someone who had such a strong identity, like Patrick.”
Former president of the British Astronomical Association, Dr Richard Miles added that May would “grow into the job if he was given a free hand”. The BBC have yet to name a replacement for Moore. There’s been no comment from Brian May
