Fuzzbox Guitarist Jo Dunne Dies Aged 43

Tributes have been paid to musician Jo Dunne of Fuzzbox who has died aged 43.

Dunne, who rose to fame with the all-girl alternative rock group in the 1980s, died from cancer at St Mary’s Hospice, Birmingham, on Friday night. Sources have reported that Jo went to her doctors six weeks ago complaining of back ache to only then discover she had cancer that had considerably spread.

The band, whose full name is We’ve Got a Fuzzbox and We’re Going to Use it, had hits including Love is the Slug and Pink Sunshine.

The Birmingham band, including Dunne on guitar and her sister Maggie on keyboards, re-formed in 2010.

Known for their distinctive videos, the group returned with a cover of the M track Pop Muzik.

Her sister Maggie said she was very proud of Jo.

“Jo is one of the very few female guitarists in this country that had any recognition and any success,” she said.

“People from other bands admired her eccentric style.”

She said Jo died peacefully after a short illness.

“I want everyone to remember her for being so brave at the end,” she added.

Fans left messages on Twitter expressing their sadness and talking of their memories of Dunne. Miles Hunt, of the Wonder Stuff, said: “Very sad to hear that Jo Dunne of Fuzzbox passed away last night. “Far too young to be moving on. “Much love to all of her family and friends.”

The band re-formed in 2010 after lead singer Vix (Vickie Perks) was approached by an agent after appearing on BBC Two’s Never Mind the Buzzcocks.”People from other bands admired her eccentric style.”
